RECOGNIZING that poetry has some bad associations.
BELIEVING that we’ve all got some poetry tucked away back there, regardless of our opinion of it
The poetry of the unexpected will release the poetry hidden behind ordinary texts.
THERE IS POETRY LURKING
INSIDE THE MUNDANE
It may not be pretty
It may not be shocking
BUT IT IS THERE
Using guerrilla techniques, we will force poetry upon you in a SURPRISE ATTACK.
We will steal your ordinary texts and replace them with poetry – you may not even know it.
We intend to:
HIGHLIGHT that what we choose to write is a CHOICE. There are other stories being hidden, censored from your eyes.
Are you not curious as to what they are?
EXPOSE the poetry in ALL texts. They are all made of language. They are all intricate mergings of sound and image.
CONFUSE the boundaries between prose and poetry, fiction and non-fiction, literature and some post-it note you found on the floor.
Do we deny the canon? NO
Do we deny that some writing is better than other writing? NO
But we think we should question how we make that decision.
There is great power in the reader. What they expect from a text will shape how they read it, what they take from it, how they process it.
WITH GREAT POWER COMES GREAT RESPONSIBILITY
And so…
We play with those expectations.
We give them unexpected poetry.
- Take an item of text that your library, bookstore and layperson would not call poetry.
- See the story the writer of the text isn’t telling.
- Replace the old text with the new.
- Send it here.
